A joint working group put a geophysical study of the anomaly on its agenda, including an assessment of whether geothermal energy can be obtained from it.
The joint working group on geological research of Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources and the Main Department of Geology under the Government of Tajikistan met in Samarkand, the committee reported on 4 December 2019.
Its agenda included a geophysical study of the Adrasman–Chust thermal anomaly, to refine its contours, clarify its origin and assess the possibilities of obtaining geothermal energy.
A presidential resolution signed on 13 October pays 50% of October–March electricity costs for greenhouses with green heating from 1 November 2026, alongside equipment grants, cheap loans and tax breaks.
The data are usable, but the method so far detects aquifer warming only above about 25 °C.
