Irina Petrovna Sidorova, Rasul Isomidinovich Saxobidinov and Elena Aleksandrovna Golovko of the Kh. M. Abdullayev Institute of Geology and Geophysics published the book “Scaling-up Renewable Geothermal Energy in Uzbekistan” on 10 February 2025. The 96-page English-language book was produced under the grant “Development of the Renewable Geothermal Energy in Uzbekistan” (REP-1/5).
The grant is funded by MUNIS, the project for Modernizing Uzbekistan’s National Innovation System, supported by the World Bank and the Government of Uzbekistan. MUNIS is financed by an IDA credit (No. 6784-UZ).
The grant
Grant agreement REP-1/5, in renewable energy, was signed on 10 August 2022 one of twelve REP-1 grants signed that day under MUNIS’s Research Excellence Program (REP). MUNIS funded it with USD 25,946 in 2022 and USD 195,770 in 2023.
The same team’s geophysical work in the Gulistan area of the Gissar region, published in 2025, was also supported by MUNIS.
Why it matters
World Bank-backed money is going directly into geothermal research in Uzbekistan, and the book is a published output of that grant.
