At the Geosolutions Leeds Showcase at the University of Leeds on 29 September, PhD student Shohruh Boqijonov showed the first vertical seismic profiles recorded with fibre-optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) in PW02a, a 250-metre borehole on the campus, he wrote on 2 October 2026.
The data are usable, he wrote, but the current method detects warming of the aquifer only above roughly 25 °C, which he says is the legal limit in the United Kingdom. The next step is to improve data acquisition and processing.
His PhD, on seismic monitoring of urban geothermal reservoirs, is funded by the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation.
