Summary

M. M. Zakirov and I. A. Agzamova of Tashkent State Technical University and N. Mavlyanova of Lomonosov Moscow State University analysed long-term regime observations of helium concentrations in the groundwater of Uzbekistan and neighbouring territories. From these records they identified the main factors that change the amount of helium in the water and evaluated how helium changes and how it is distributed in groundwater.

In the authors’ view, changes in helium concentration depend strongly on deformation, hydrogeodynamic and tectonic conditions. They describe and quantify four factors, each linked to a different level of helium concentration. These factors, they conclude, make it possible to assess correctly the variations of helium that are associated with seismic events.
