Highlights
- Project years: 2019–2021.
- Detailed survey areas: Muruntau, Krasnogorsk and Bayangora.
- Result: a 3D model of Muruntau and well locations for a planned geothermal station.
Summary
A conference abstract on a large research project, run from 2019 to 2021, on heat-flow anomalies across Uzbekistan. It produced a new heat-flow map, with detailed gravity, seismic and magnetotelluric surveys in three areas: Muruntau, Krasnogorsk and Bayangora.
Gravity maps revealed decompression zones and faults, seismic sections showed low- and high-velocity zones, and magnetotelluric soundings found conductive zones that match the anomalous heat flow. Combining them, the team built a 3D model of Muruntau’s deep structure and chose well locations for a geothermal station.
