Highlights
- Reduced pressure heads in the Upper Jurassic: 3,118.3 m at Chilgumbaz, 3,140 m at West Kultak and 3,350 m at Nishan, against 1,479 m at Shurasan and 1,020 m at Amanata.
- Hydraulic gradient 22.6 m/km between Shurasan and Yakkasaray; on the Mubarek uplift, gradients of 0.5–6 m/km and filtration rates of 0.016–0.18 m per year.
- Beshkent trough: 16 of 42 formation-pressure measurements show an anomaly coefficient above 1.20, the highest 1.92 at Chilgumbaz.
- Formation pressures of 23.24–58.9 MPa at measurement depths of 2,218.5–3,845.0 m.
- Water temperatures of 108–129 °C at 21 points, at depths of 2,914.5–3,753.5 m.
- A low-head zone of 229.0–508.0 m runs along the Uchbash–Karshi fault; heads of 1,552.1–2,869.3 m occur in the central Beshkent trough.

Summary
Written for oil and gas exploration, this paper studies how formation water moves in the Upper Jurassic deposits of the Bukhara–Khiva region, the north-eastern part of the Karakum (Amu Darya) water-pressure system. The author calculated reduced pressure heads by the Silin-Bekchurin method and mapped them for the Upper Jurassic aquifer complex.
Water flows mainly from the south and south-east towards the north and north-west. Heads are highest near the mountain frame, up to 3,350 m at Nishan, and fall to the west and north-west. Sharp lows in head lie on the Kagan and Mubarek uplifts and along the Bukhara deep fault. The author reads them as places where Jurassic water leaks upwards into Cretaceous beds. At Buzakhur, Cretaceous horizons XII and XIV hold brines of 98.8–114.6 g/L with dissolved organic matter typical of Jurassic water, which the author links to flow along the Lyangar–Karail fault.
In the south-east, in the Beshkent trough, a broad zone of abnormally high formation pressure coincides with the Upper Jurassic salt beds. Of 42 pressure measurements, 16 show an anomaly coefficient above 1.20. Water temperatures given for 21 of these points range from 108 to 129 °C.
