Summary
Yu. L. Salaydinova of Tashkent State Technical University and M. G. Yuldasheva of the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields (IGIRNIGM) assessed the petroleum potential of the Jurassic rock complex in the Aral Sea offshore area of the Ustyurt region with 3D seismic attributes. They mapped the tops of the Permo-Triassic and Jurassic horizons and combined attribute volumes (variance or coherence, sweetness, root-mean-square amplitude and envelope) and generalised spectral decomposition at 19–41 Hz with well logs and well tests from the Western Aral, Meros, Dengiz and Karakum areas.
Variance outlined fault zones and flexural-block areas. Sweetness and RMS amplitude picked out possible reservoir intervals in channel sand bodies and zones of higher porosity, and spectral decomposition refined the picture of river palaeochannels and the facies changes around them. The authors identify four main types of Jurassic traps: structural (anticlinal), fault-bounded, litho-stratigraphic channel traps and combined structural–facies traps. From the attributes they built a risk cube and a prospect map for planning further exploration.
