Summary
I. Kh. Khalismatov, Sh. E. Shomurodov, R. T. Zakirov and R. R. Isanova of Tashkent State Technical University analysed the development of the Surgil, East Berdakh, Uchsay and Urga gas fields, which produce from Jurassic terrigenous deposits of the Ustyurt oil and gas region. They aimed to determine the final volume of drained gas reserves, to assess the gas recovery factor and to recommend a method for determining it. The gas recovery factor estimated from the development of the Ustyurt fields is, in their view, clearly lower than the values known from the literature for sand–clay reservoirs.
Final gas recovery from these reservoirs, developed under natural drive, depends on how reliably the initial reserves were determined, on the development system, on the lithology of the reservoir, on how uniform the pore space is across the field and through the section, and on how consistent the layers are in thickness and properties. Reserves estimated by the pressure-drop method served as the criterion. Because filtration and reservoir properties vary, some gas stays in small pores, and the recovery factor is lower than one.
