Summary
N. S. Kayupov, M. G. Yuldasheva and Sh. U. Eshmetova of the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields (IGIRNIGM) studied the Muynak uplift, which adjoins the Berdakh swell on the east in the central part of the Ustyurt oil and gas region. Oil and gas deposits have been found in Jurassic sediments of the Berdakh swell. The authors analysed the available geological and geophysical data, including the lithology, stratigraphy and reservoir properties of the rocks, to forecast the oil and gas potential of the Mesozoic rocks in this part of the North Ustyurt basin.
Deep drilling at the uplift found Lower Carboniferous limestones, which are also potential reservoirs for oil and gas. Wells showed indirect signs of oil and gas, and the authors recommend further exploration.
