Summary

The article describes the chemistry and medical uses of the underground mineral waters of sanatoriums in Tashkent and Tashkent region, and presents these waters as the basis for developing the region’s resorts. On 1 January 2020, Uzbekistan had 68 mineral-water deposits and sites on record, 67 of them with approved reserves.

In Tashkent and the surrounding region, about 20 wells in the Pretashkent artesian basin draw mineral water from the Cenomanian (K2cm) aquifer complex. Sanatoriums, a water-sports palace and bottling plants in Tashkent use it. The wells described are 1,371–2,435 m deep. Most give weakly mineralised (0.8–1.7 g/L), weakly alkaline sodium waters at 46–67 °C with no specific components, which the authors class as highly thermal.

The waters are used for baths, showers and drinking cures. The authors conclude that developing the region’s resorts needs deeper hydrogeological and medical studies.
