Summary

Written about reservoir modelling, this paper describes how a hydrodynamic model of the Ernazar gas-condensate field was matched to its production history when part of the field lies outside Uzbekistan and no data on that part were available. The field was discovered in 2009 and put into trial production in 2010. A structure map of the top of horizon XV shows the Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan border crossing the field.

The productive horizons XV and XVa are limestones of the Upper Jurassic carbonate deposits. Initial reservoir pressure was 61.02 MPa and initial reservoir temperature 399.9 K. Formation water has a density of 1,065 kg/m³. The gas–water contact lies at −3,359.3 m in the 2023 reserve estimate, against −3,420 m in the approved earlier estimate.

By 1 June 2023, 16 wells had been drilled, 8 of them producing, and the field had yielded 3,734.8 million m³ of gas and 126.3 thousand tonnes of condensate. Modelled reservoir pressure stayed well above measured pressure. The author attributes the gap to gas flowing to, and being produced from, the part of the field abroad, and puts the difference between calculated and recorded cumulative gas production for 2010–2017, found by material balance, at 793 million m³, or 33.4%.
