The joint working group on geological research of Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources and the Main Department of Geology under the Government of Tajikistan met in Samarkand, the committee reported on 4 December 2019.
Its agenda included a geophysical study of the Adrasman–Chust thermal anomaly, to refine its contours, clarify its origin and assess the possibilities of obtaining geothermal energy.
Other items included joint mapping of the border areas, prospective sites near the border, hazardous geological processes such as landslides, and the magmatism and metallogeny of the Kurama mountains.
