A draft presidential decree published for public discussion proposes creating an Agency for the Development of Renewable Energy under the Cabinet of Ministers, Gazeta.uz reported on 12 December 2018. The agency’s purpose would be the “large-scale introduction of technologies based on solar, wind and geothermal energy”.
The agency would have a scientific, technical and expert council that includes representatives of the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, the Academy of Sciences and independent international experts. The draft also provides for a concept for developing renewable energy in 2020–2030 and for an off-budget Renewable Energy Development Fund within the agency.
