On 25 June 2019, the National Agency for Project Management under the President of Uzbekistan and the Finnish company Kauko International signed a memorandum of understanding, UzDaily reported on 27 June.
The memorandum aims to attract investment into the energy sector and to introduce sustainable, reliable and affordable power-generation technologies. It provides for applying a geothermal energy solution and for jointly finding ways to use geothermal energy sources in Uzbekistan.
Spot.uz, citing the agency’s press service, reported the next day that the offer centred on Finnish drilling equipment that it said raises average drilling speed two to four times.
