Speaking at the second panel session of German Economy Day in Uzbekistan on 14 September 2023, Deputy Minister of Energy Umid Mamadaminov said the country’s infrastructure was not yet ready for renewable energy facilities, Spot.uz reported on 15 September.

He said that during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Germany in May 2023, a contract worth $4 billion covered turbine supply to existing thermal power plants and financing for an underground gas storage facility. Another five agreements, worth €2.3 billion, concerned building photovoltaic, wind and geothermal stations and digitalising the energy sector.

The partners in the geothermal part were not named.
