Officials of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology, led by First Deputy Minister Feruza Khamidova, met representatives of the International Geothermal Association (IGA), the ministry reported on 26 September 2025.
The IGA representatives presented the association’s work and its main aims, and told the ministry about the geothermal projects it has carried out, the results achieved and its plans.
The ministry said Uzbekistan has ample opportunities for geothermal energy and that it is ready to cooperate on promising projects to develop the field. No agreements were announced.
Why it matters
The ministry manages groundwater, which includes thermal water, so its support matters for any geothermal project. The same week, the IGA agreed with Uzbekneftegaz to form a joint working group, and in February 2026 Uzbekistan hosted its first International Geothermal Forum on the IGA’s initiative.
