From 31 March to 2 May 2025, J. M. Melibayev, a specialist at the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology (HYDROENGEO), is on a research and practical internship in Montpellier, France, the institute reported on 29 April. The internship is hosted by BRGM, France’s geological survey, and focuses on groundwater modelling.
The training covers methods of hydrogeological analysis with ESPERE, software for assessing and modelling groundwater. It has also included fieldwork in the basin of the Lez, a river that flows through karst rock, to study how groundwater and surface water interact.
The internship is organised under the Campus France grant programme.
Why it matters
Modelling groundwater is a core skill for geothermal work too, because thermal water is groundwater. In June 2026, a BRGM researcher came to Tashkent to train the institute’s staff.
