Researchers of the Lithosphere Structure Laboratory of the Kh. M. Abdullayev Institute of Geology and Geophysics are carrying out geophysical fieldwork under the project “Comprehensive geophysical studies (gravimetric, magnetotelluric) in the search for petrothermal heat in the Khorezm area of the Aral region”, the institute reported on 20 September 2025.
The work aims to identify petrothermal heat resources in Khorezm, study how they are distributed, and single out promising areas. Combining gravity and magnetotelluric methods, the team plans to analyse deep geological structures and assess geothermal potential.
The institute says such projects serve the search for new energy sources in the Aral Sea region, environmental sustainability, and turning research into practical results.
