BRGM researcher Ivan Osorio-Leon, PhD, is visiting Tashkent from 15 to 18 June 2026, the University of Geological Sciences and the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology (HYDROENGEO) reported on 16 June. From 16 to 18 June he is running a seminar and training course for the institute’s staff, with lectures and practical sessions.
The programme covers the importance of groundwater in the 21st century, priority directions in modern hydrogeology, the science of the “critical zone”, building a national knowledge system, and the future of Uzbekistan’s water resources.
It builds on earlier cooperation: in spring 2025 an institute specialist trained at BRGM in Montpellier in groundwater modelling.
Why it matters
Geothermal water is groundwater, so hydrogeology training supports geothermal work too. Three months later, the same institute hosted BRGM to discuss the deep geothermal potential of the Fergana Valley.
