Shohruh Boqijonov, an Uzbek geophysicist, wrote on 12 August 2025 that he had received an official offer for a PhD at the University of Leeds on 12 June.

He first wrote to Professor Adam Booth about his research interests in geothermal energy, seismic monitoring and machine learning. After an online interview with Professor Booth and Dr Sjoerd de Ridder, the project that interested him most was one studying urban geothermal systems with seismic methods. He then expanded the methodology into a formal research proposal and had a formal interview with three professors.
