Geophysicist Shohruh Boqijonov announced on 6 February 2026 that he had officially won a scholarship from the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation.
The scholarship funds his PhD at the University of Leeds, which he began in April 2026, he wrote later. His research topic is seismic monitoring of urban geothermal reservoirs with fibre-optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS).
A presidential resolution signed on 13 October pays 50% of October–March electricity costs for greenhouses with green heating from 1 November 2026, alongside equipment grants, cheap loans and tax breaks.
The data are usable, but the method so far detects aquifer warming only above about 25 °C, Shohruh Boqijonov reports.
